The peat moss I get here is compress and comes in a 3.8 cu. ft. bag. If your peat moss is compressed, you will need to break it up some how. If you don’t, you will be using way more peat than you need for Mel’s Mix. At 30 bucks per bag, it pays to take a little extra time to break and sift it. Anyhow, here’s how I deal with it.
Have a simple sifter made out of some heavy wire mess and is framed with 2×2’s. I lay it on the wheelbarrow, put on the gloves and go for it. When those lumps are broken up and sifted, there is over twice the amount of peat that you see in the picture.
